Objective: | The main objective of the project was the implementation of selective-inversion thinnings in order to rehabilitate coppice Quercus frainetto and Quercus ilex woods in SCI GR1270003 «Athos Peninsula». The purpose of this project was to increase the flora biodiversity, especially of the understory vegetation, and the structural diversity of the forest. These forests are important for nature conservation at European level since very few of them occur in areas of the Natura 2000 network. The aim of the rehabilitation was to return these forests to their natural state, as they were at the end of the 19th century. |
