“Development of a Common Protocol to Assess the Impact of Forest Management Practices on Climate Change” – visit to the pilot area.
In May 2018, a visit to the Vakfikebir pilot area, Trabzon was carried out for the implementation of the project "Development of a Common Protocol to Assess the Impact of Forest Management Practices on Climate Change" under the EuropeAid program, co-funded by the European Union and Turkey.
Although the weather was not ideal, the responsible professors Nuray Misir and Mehmet Misir and postgraduate students of the Department of Forest Engineering of the Karadeniz Technical University of Trabzon, supported by staff of the Forest Service, introduced the methodology for field data collection that will be used for the estimation of carbon captured in the beech forests of the region.
The visit at the pilot area was attended by Mrs. Despoina Vlachaki, a company executive, participates in the program as a PhD candidate for Democritus University of Thrace.
Currently, field data analysis is being carried out and forest management protocols are being developed to strengthen the function of forests as carbon sinks. The results of the program will be presented in a workshop that will be organized from the Karadeniz Technical University next September in Trabzon.
