We are pleased to announce the organization of a joint cross-border event and study visit in Kavala, Greece, within the framework of the Project “Green Urban Resilience – Climate Change Adaptation Solutions for Smart and Resilient Cities in the Black Sea Basin (BSB00006)”.

The project is implemented under the Interreg VI-B NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme 2021–2027 and is co-funded by the European Union with 90% financial support, contributing to a total project budget of €1,290,188.88. The Project duration is 26 months and will end in September 2026.

The Joint Study Visit event in Kavala is part of the activities for the establishment and operation of the International Landscape Research Laboratory (LANDLAB) in Türkiye, at Istanbul University – Cerrahpaşa, Faculty of Forestry, Department of Landscape Architecture, and its work on the analysis of the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect in the target countries and cities.

The event aims to facilitate the exchange of joint expertise and knowledge on these topics.

The event will present the scientific and methodological work of the LANDLAB academic team and introduce the LANDLAB work plan, measurement methodology, and research approach. It will also serve as a platform for planning the upcoming measurement activities and thermal discomfort assessments, which will be carried out in the coming months by all project partners in the four target cities: Uzunköprü (TR), Sozopol (BG), Batumi (GE), and Kavala (GR).

The event will take place on 14–16 May 2025 in Kavala, Greece, and will be organized as a study visit and joint cross-border event, with the participation of all project partners, as well as representatives from relevant institutions and organizations.

Participants will gain insight into measurement of meteorological parameters such as Air temperature, Wind speed, Globe temperature and Relative humidity. At the same time will demonstrate the use of Thermal cameras, Drone-based measurements and Digital thermal mapping tools in the measuring activities and present the Methodology for assessing thermal comfort and urban heat stress by the local measuring experts.

The LANDLAB academic team will present the joint measurement approach and guide the establishment of local measuring groups in each country.

The event will bring together municipal experts and urban planners, environmental specialists and public authorities, representatives of NGOs and local communities and academic staff and researchers from LANDLAB and local experts’ measuring teams, established in each participating country.

This event is organized within the project “Green Urban Resilience (BSB00006)” co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg VI-B NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, with 90% EU co- financial support.
